A year ago, I sat in the audience to cover the Hillel Jewish University Center’s Campus Superstar singing competition, but I couldn’t rid my mind of the desire to be behind that microphone instead. So, I went out on a limb and auditioned, just for the fun of it.
To my surprise, out of over 160 students who tried out, I was one of 25 who qualified for the semi-finals. Contestant number 25 out of 25, to be exact, naturally saving the best for last. Just kidding! Everyone was so. amazingly. talented. My arm pores got a great workout from the incessant goosebumps so many of the voices gave me that night.
Although my rendition of Florence + the Machine’s “Shake it Out,” didn’t qualify me for the finals, I still had such an amazing time being back on the stage.And in the words of Florence, herself, “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” I’ll get ’em next year.
